Zumaya
· The Denominación de Origen Ribera del Duero was established in 1982 after centuries of tradition producing wine.
· The ZUMAYA project is part of the renaissance that the region is currently experiencing with a new concept of wines: elegant and complex whilst being fruity, smooth, round and easy to drink
with an excellent quality-price ratio.
· Zumaya which gives the name to our wines is a small owl that lives in the region, amongst the vineyards of Tempranillo, the
main grape variety of the region.
· The “ZUMAYA” wines are made from Tempranillo, the main variety of the region, from vines that are around 25-50 years old
and are harvested by hand.
· In 2009 Finca el Carpio Winery was awarded with the IFC Certificate, which assures their ability to maintain quality and traceability of all their outputs, together with the global product safety and quality certification program, the BRC Global Standard Certificate.
· The area has a continental climate with light Atlantic influences; cold winters and hot summers.
· The soils are not very fertile and made up of limestone, marl and clay.
