The fruit originates from the Santa Barbara Highlands Vineyard, a 1600-acre estate with over 750 acres under vine, on Santa Barabara County's eastern border, 28 miles inland. The estate is planted on the backside of the Sierra Madre Mountains on mountain plateau and rolling hills at 2,800 to 3,200 ft elevation.
