La Mano
· Villafranca del Bierzo is located in the heart of the Bierzo region, in the Northwest of Spain and in the middle of the "Camino de Santiago", the pilgrim´s road to Santiago de Compostela.
· 1400 m2 of oak ageing cellars with 1000 barrels of an average age of 3 year old American oak.
· The origin of the region’s vine cultivation D.O. Bierzo together with the Vino de la Tierra Castilla y León started with the Ancient Greek inhabitants and later on with the Roman occupation.
· The Winery disposes of 1500 m2 for the elaboration and bottling facility with state of the art equipment.
· In 2007 the winery was awarded with the global product safety and quality certification program, BRC Global Standard Certificate and with the IFS, International Food Standard for auditing branded food products.
· LA MANO is the Spanish word for hand; as these wines are made by the hands of people who have always worked with the Mencía vines.
· The vineyards are protected by the surrounding mountains, avoiding possible frost damage in the region.
· In this region the soils are composed of clay limestone and the vineyards are made up of terraces and small parcels.
· The climate is affected by Atlantic (the Galician area) and by Continental (the Castilian area) influences.
· The most important grape for red wine is the "Mencía" grape variety.
